Installation on your desktop
The normal version of iBizSim is delivered and installed as a client-server installation.
The server is a dedicated server with the Ubuntu Linux Server as the operating system, PostgreSQL as the back-end database server and Apache2 with PHP as the webserver. The client is a web client i.e. a web browser and any standard browser like MS Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox can be used from any hardware and any operating system. The web client accesses the iBizSim application on the webserver using the standard HTTP protocol.
Since it is very unlikely that you would want to set up a client-server environment to try out and test iBizSim, we have packaged the entire software environment needed by our application in one executable file. This executable file installs the entire software environment under your usual desktop operating system, either MS Windows XP or MS Windows Vista.
Please note that running a server-based application on your desktop is not very secure. You should run the servers only for trying out the demo version of iBizSim and immediately stop the running servers after you have finished with the demo version.
Contents of the package
The executable file contains several pre-installed, open-source packages and you need to be aware of, read and accept their license terms. You will receive the following open-source packages:
- Apache 2 : The license is available at www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0.
- PHP4 : The license is available at several mirrors including www.php.net/license/3_0.txt.
- PostgreSQL : The license is available at www.postgresql.org/about/licence.html.
During the installation of the demo version of iBizSim you will be asked whether you accept the terms of license of these open-source packages. You then have the option of signifying your acceptance of the three licenses by ticking the yes checkbox and continuing with the installation. If you have any concerns about accepting these licenses, please cancel the installation and inform us. We can then set up a test environment for you on our server.
